CBD & CIRS: What You Need to Know

What is CIRS?

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a complex and often misunderstood illness that occurs when someone genetically susceptible is exposed to biotoxins, typically from water-damaged buildings, and their body cannot properly process and eliminate these toxins. About 25% of the population has a genetic makeup (HLA genes) that makes them vulnerable to CIRS, leading to a cascade of inflammatory responses throughout multiple body systems when exposed to triggers like mold, mycotoxins, certain algae, or Lyme disease.

The symptoms of CIRS can be both diverse and debilitating, affecting nearly every aspect of a person's life. Sufferers often experience profound fatigue, cognitive difficulties (commonly known as "brain fog"), memory problems, headaches, joint and muscle pain, and unusual sensitivity to light. Many also struggle with mood changes, respiratory issues, sleep disturbances, and problems regulating their body temperature. These symptoms can persist and worsen if the underlying cause isn't identified and addressed.

Diagnosis and treatment of CIRS requires a comprehensive approach, beginning with visual contrast sensitivity testing, genetic testing, and blood biomarker analysis to confirm the condition. Treatment typically involves several crucial steps: first and foremost, removing the person from biotoxin exposure, followed by using binding agents to help eliminate toxins from the body. The recovery protocol often includes supporting natural detoxification pathways, addressing inflammation, making dietary modifications, and ensuring proper environmental remediation of contaminated spaces. This systematic approach is necessary because CIRS affects multiple body systems and requires a thorough, methodical treatment strategy for successful recovery.
