CBD continues to make headlines for its potential role in supporting both body and mind — and now, new research is exploring how it may help protect one of our most vital organs: the brain.
A recently published study from Augusta University, featured in PsyPost, found that daily inhalation of CBD reduced brain inflammation and improved memory-related behaviors in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease. The findings add to a growing body of evidence that inflammation plays a major role in how Alzheimer’s develops and progresses.
For decades, scientists have focused on the buildup of proteins known as amyloid plaques and tau tangles as the main drivers of Alzheimer’s. But more recent studies point to another factor — chronic inflammation in the brain’s immune system — as a key piece of the puzzle. The Augusta team wanted to see whether CBD’s well-known anti-inflammatory properties could calm this overactive immune response.
Their results were striking: CBD appeared to regulate two critical immune pathways (IDO and cGAS) tied to inflammation, leading to lower inflammatory markers and improved memory in treated mice. In short, the compound seemed to help restore balance within the brain — not by shutting down the immune system, but by modulating it intelligently.
While this work is still early and based on preclinical models, it reinforces a larger shift in how researchers think about Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases in general. Rather than targeting one symptom, CBD could one day play a role in supporting the body’s own systems to maintain equilibrium — something Blue Sky CBD customers already understand well from their own experiences with calm, focus, and restorative sleep.
